10th post

Hi everyone! Today I will write about my experience learning English at university and my blog experience.

Learning English in university is really different than learn it at school for me. I feel at school I always did the same, I mean complete sentences, reading one book per semester, listen a conversation, complete some boring activities, but at university I feel it more interesting because the interaction between us, I think that is so helpful to improve this language.

About blogs, that is the second time I use blogs, and I think it is interesting; it’s a different way to express yourself and share your feelings with the others. At the same time, you could know something else about other people, or any theme, because there are some blogs dedicated to talk about politics or sports or food or tips for anything.

On the other hand, English blogs help me to think a little more in English, because when I write, I try to express my own in English directly, I try to forget the Spanish for a moment. At first was difficult but it comes easily with the time. In the same way, think in English is an aspect I need to improve more. Sometimes, I watch a movie many times, I learned the dialogue and then I put the audio and subtitles in English. I consider it helpful. Another way to improve this is using applications and social networks in English.

Like I said before, using social networks could help us to improve our English, and I do it! Sometimes, I try to practice pronunciation or learn new vocabulary. Sometimes, I talk with my friends in English, but it is not serious hahaha I think that is “spanglish”, but fortuitously it can help us to learn a new word.

The world is in our hands

Hi everyone! Today I’m going talking to you about environmental problems, some environmentally friendly actions, and what I do to improve this problem.

Well, first I’m going to mention some of most important environmental problems: Contamination of drinking water, soil contamination, air pollution, wildlife conservation, carbon footprint and climate change. All of them, could bring to us very serious problems related with our life, and even, with world life.

Neverthless, there are many organisations to invite people like us to take conscience about it, like Greenpeace, Go Lite, New Belgium Brewing, Patagonia, West Paw Desing, Waste Zero, and many others. The main idea, is show us take care of the world is not difficult. I think people don’t have necessary incentive to do eco friendly actions, and in many cases is easier than we think.

Now, I give you a list of some easy eco friendly actions:
-       - Turn off lights when not in use
-        -Take shorter showers
-        -Open blinds to let in natural light
-        -Freeze foods before it goes bad
-        -Turn off water when brushing teeth
-        -Recycle bottles, cans, newspapers, etc.
-        -Use reusable containers at home.

As you see, is not really difficult! You only need motivation J For example, in my grandfather’s home we separated our trash, in organic and not. In my home, we separeted galss bottles and carton box, and we put them in special containers to recycle. I try to use my bycicle as long as I can, because I like sports and I help to reduce contamination :D You can do it too! Save the world is in our hands!

2014... A great year :)

Hi everyone! Today I’m going to talking about this year… I can’t believe we are in October! This year began with one of the most important highlights in my life…the university! I always remember when I saw I was selected for Dentistry at Universidad de Chile, that was my dream since 2008, and when I was selected, I just screamed, laughed, I called ALL my family and friends…That was the first signal of a good year.

In March, the first day became. I was so excited; I wanted to know my classmates, my teachers, the system, the career! At the beginning, I met with some of my classmates, and we made a very special group, and we are still together, and I really enjoy the moments with them! They are Debora, Juan, Sebastian, Marcelo, Cecilia, Fernando, and Diego.  And about Diego, I want to say something more special, because with the time, our relation turns to something more than a friendship. Today, he is my boyfriend, and I feel so happy about that. Through this year, he supports me when I need it, he helps me when I have a difficulty, he always try to make me happy, and I love spend my time with him. We always laugh together, make silliness, we share a lot of interest, and we enjoy our time together (Diego, when you read this, I love u, you are one of the most special gifts I’ve received <3). I’m really grateful with God, for put in my way wonderful people like them, and allow me to give the best of myself to express my love.

In the University, at the first semester, I had a lot of difficulties. I began really BAD! But, with the time, I found the method to study, and it is in group. Often, Juan, Diego and I get together for study, especially for Anatomy, and this is very helpful.

Like always, I want to highlight my family support. They are always with me, unconditionally. And I’m grateful for this too. And obviously, the continuous company of my old friends, Daniela and Italo specially, both are always with me, and I’m happy for have them in my life.

I wish enjoy the rest of the year with my special people, and continuing learning and grow with different experiences.

Medicine + Technology

Hi everyone, today I’m going to write about a very interesting topic related with technology and medicine at the same time… Do you know something about Teletón? Well, this is a foundation dedicated to help child and teens between 0 and 24 years who have any motor disability, for neurological, muscular or osseous causes. In many cases, prosthesis is needed to replace an arm, a hand, a leg, because some illnesses produced the absence of any of them.

In the same way, an investigation team from United States, created a prosthesis made by 3D printer called “Cyborg Beast”, and Wladimir Silva, a Chilean teen, who has the Poland Syndorme and goes to Teletón, was the first person with this kind of prosthesis in Chile for his hand, but four more patients are going to receive this kind of prosthesis in this same foundation.

Teletón with the North American team, are going to start an investigation with them for demonstrate the functionality and correct use of Cyborg Beast. I think these kinds of technology are really good! Because Cyborg Beast prosthesis are made with plastic similar to the “Legos”, and obviously are cheaper than metal prosthesis. For example metal hand prosthesis cost U$4,000, but the prosthesis of Wladimir cost U$25, so the access is easier for people who don’t have much money! And they are lighter too.
